Independent musicians
\nhave always lost out because of the way collecting societies have traditionally
\ndivided royalties. We think it\u2019s about time they got the money and recognition
\nthey deserve for their music.<\/i><\/p>\n

On 16 July 2013, we paid a semester\u2019s royalties to our
\nartists for only the third time in our company\u2019s history. The results were
\noutstanding, both for us and for our right holders. In one semester \u2013 that is,
\njust six months \u2013 some of our content providers earned as much as \u20ac79,705.
\n However, we are even more proud of our top independent musicians who made
\n\u20ac2350 in just one semester from in-store music broadcasting. Under the current
\ncollecting society system, those artists wouldn\u2019t even make that much money if
\ntheir music were played on national FM radio. We\u2019re proud to have been able to
\nsupport independent artists in the two ways that really count: getting their
\nmusic heard and making sure they\u2019re paid for it. Unlike most other music users,
\nwe publish our figures; this means that artists, record labels and publishers
\nknow exactly how much they will be paid and where the money comes from.<\/p>\n

On average, we pay our artists \u20ac0.050 per stream, which is
\nnearly 17 times more than the $0.004 (\u20ac0.003) independent artists reportedly earn from Spotify<\/a> (unfortunately we can\u2019t verify this figure, since Spotify don\u2019t publish what
\nthey pay artists).<\/p>\n

Independent bands with at least 10 songs registered with
\nSoundreef earned an average of \u20ac428 each from us.Our top independent band
\nearning \u20ac2,350 in the last semester alone! The top earner among our publishers,
\nrecord labels and music libraries earned \u20ac79,705 \u2013 and has earned a whopping
\n\u20ac238,304 since they registered with us! These are astonishing figures. To put
\nthem in perspective, most members of a national collecting society find it
\ndifficult to earn enough from the royalties they are paid to cover their annual
\nmembership fee, let alone make a profit! For example, between 50% and 60% of
\nthe members of the Italian national collecting society do not collect enough
\nroyalties to cover their annual membership (http:\/\/www.altroconsumo.it\/vita-privata-famiglia\/nc\/news\/intervista-a-giorgio-assumma-presidente-della-siae).
\n <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\nmillion people hear Soundreef music every month in 3700 stores in 11 countries,
\nand 99% of the businesses who play our music to their customers renew their
\nsubscriptions. Our customers choose from a database of 152,430 songs, with new
